TOOTH EXTRACTION
Most children don’t have issues when baby teeth fail to fall out, but a good number have to visit the dentist for an extraction. If a baby tooth is not extracted, the permanent one will grow underneath it, which will affect the child’s smile. IDR DENTISTRY will numb the treatment area to prevent the child from feeling pain. Then, we will loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator and use forceps to remove the tooth from the socket. We will never recommend extraction if there is a less invasive treatment option. Make sure you understand why extraction is recommended and what the procedure involves for your child.

FLUOR APPLICATION TREATMENT
Fluoride prevents tooth decay and strengthens the enamel of the teeth. Fluoride varnish can be used on babies from the time that they have their first tooth (around six months of age). Fluoride varnish has been used to prevent cavities in children. FDA approved and is supported by the American Dental Association. Fluoride varnish is painted on the top and sides of each tooth with a small brush. It is sticky but hardens once it comes in contact with saliva. Your child may feel the hardened varnish with his tongue but will not be able to lick the varnish off. It does not hurt when the varnish is applied.

PEDIATRIC DENTAL CHECK-UPS
Pediatric dental check-ups typically include a professional cleaning of your child’s teeth to eliminate any accumulation of plaque and tartar. Furthermore, check-ups give parents the opportunity to speak to dental professionals about keeping their children’s teeth and gums healthy. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children start seeing a dentist every six months, by their first birthday or once their first tooth emerges.

DENTAL ACCIDENT EMERGENCIES
Dental emergencies can happen. And just as the word indicates, emergencies are those events that can’t be foreseen, and when they occur, require immediate attention. Parents will do anything possible to keep their children safe. Sometimes things happen, however, that can’t be controlled or prevented, resulting in an emergency. Parents who are aware of common dental emergencies and what should be done are better equipped to seek the appropriate dental or medical attention and provide their children with greater chances of a complete dental recovery. IDR DENTISTRY is committed to your children’s dental health to provide them with the best care possible.
